Remember the book The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls? Educated was similar in the very unconventional childhood of Jeannette Walls. However Glass Castle parents were neglectful while Educated parents were extreme radicals with the father having mental illness. He distorted facts in real life to suit the needs of end of the world type scenarios with his family. The violence of brother Shawn and how the family sweeps it under the rug so to speak is mind boggling. From talking last night the Mormon belief is Patriarchal where women must get to God through a man. I’m incredulous that this is even in existence… but .. alas it is! :::::::shaking my head:::::: Her mother LaRee is educated herself but is cowered by a domineering mentally ill husband. Just sad!!! Her mothers business Butterfly Express is wildly successful launched and very popular after her father’s near death burning. For the website click HERE

I’ve been reading Educated and was just perusing the internet looking for more information on this family as I’ve been shocked and disgusted and perplexed and many other emotions as I’ve read her story. I somehow happened upon this post and decided to read it and just wanted to tell you that this book is NOT a good place to get your information on “Mormons”. This family, while they are Mormon, they definitely don’t live their lives anything like “Mormons”. FYI, the Mormon belief is not Patriarchal where women must get to God through a man. I joined the church about 22 years ago as an adult and I just had to comment. I’m really enjoying the book Educated, but I can see that it is causing people to be very miseducated about “Mormons” or Members of The Church of Jesus Christ.
